How to Use the Marking Tools in Materialise Magics

Instructions

Selecting the Triangle view:

  1. Click on the sixth icon (gray, 3D cube) in the Marking toolbar, which is located in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select the 'Triangle' option.

Making the Marking toolbar and Marking Options available:

  1. Click on any marking tool in the Marking toolbar.
  2. The Marking Options will appear at the top of your screen.
  3. To close this pop-up, press the 'Esc' key.


Choosing Marking Entities and Selection tools 

  • The Marking Entities and Selection tools are found in the Marking Options toolbar.


Selecting the Triangle Marking tool 

  1. Click on the first icon (green triangle with a black cursor) in the Marking Options toolbar.
  2. Click on a triangle to mark it.
  3. Click on the same triangle to unmark it. To unmark multiple triangles, click on the 'Unmark All' button in the Marking toolbar or press the 'F8' key.


Selecting the Mark Plane tool

  1. Click on the small arrow in the first icon (green triangle with a black cursor) located in the Marking Options toolbar.
  2. Select the Mark Plane tool and click on the area you want to mark.
  3. Click on the same area to unmark a plane.


Selecting the Mark Surface tool

  1. Click on the small arrow in the first icon (green triangle with a black cursor) located in the Marking Options toolbar.
  2. Select the Mark Surface tool and click on the surface area you want to mark. Unlike the Mark Plane tool, this tool takes the defined wireframes and surface curvatures into account.
  3. Click on the same area to unmark a surface


Selecting the Mark Shell tool

  1. A shell is an uninterrupted connection of triangles. Click on part to mark the entire shell
  2. Click on the same area to unmark the shell


Selecting the Rectangle Selection

  1. Click on the second icon (green rectangle with black cursor) in the Marking Options toolbar.
  2. Press and hold the left mouse button to draw a rectangle and mark all the triangles, planes, surfaces, or shells inside it.
  3. Press the 'Alt' key to lock the shape as a square.
  4. Click on the area to mark a triangle. 
  5. Press the 'Ctrl' key while drawing to mark through/or multiple parts.
  6. Press the 'Shift' key while drawing to unmark a region. You can use the same method for other marking tools displayed on the screen.


Selecting the Brush Selection

  1. Click on the third icon (green wavy line with a black paintbrush) in the Marking Options toolbar.
  2. Click and hold the left mouse button to use the brush; all triangles touching the brush line will be marked.
    Unlike the Mark Plane tool, this tool doesn't select the entire plane inside the circle.
  3. Press the 'Ctrl' key while scrolling to adjust the brush size or change the size directly by going to the icon in the Marking Options toolbar and manually changing the pixel size.


Selecting a Freeform Selection or region

  1. Click on the fourth icon (green figure eight shape with black pen) in the Marking Options toolbar.
  2. Click and hold the left mouse button to draw with your mouse. Magics will complete the line and apply the marking.
  3. Unlike the Brush Selection tool, this tool can select the entire area inside your drawing.


Selecting the Copy Marked or Delete Marked tools

  1. Click on the triangle with two documents labeled 'Copy Marked' in the Marking toolbar.
  2. Click on the triangle with a cross labeled 'Delete Marked' in the Marking toolbar.
