About High Speed Milling

High Speed Milling is a technique that combines high spindle speeds with increased feed rates. This results in a high chipforming rate and lower milling forces, producing an improved surface quality and closer tolerances.

Materialise has introduced this technology to complement its rapid prototyping techniques of stereolithography and selective laser sintering. This allows fast, accurate machining of materials like fibre reinforced plastics and tool grade aluminium on 3-axis high speed milling machines, processing complex surfaces layer by layer.

The CNC programs are based on STL-files, this enables us to process them in the same logistical environment as the standard RP technologies resulting in short lead times. The program fully supports a 2 1/2D approach as well as 3D milling for high quality complex surfaces.
