Amelooblastoma of right angle of mandible, Using of Stereolithography in a CMF Oncology.
Patient V., ID 334, case presented by Prof. Timofeev A.A. from Kiev Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Kiev, Ukraine.
a. A 40 year's female was seen in the Univ. clinic of Kiev Medical Academy with amelooblastoma of the right angle of mandible.
Right view of 3D-reconstruction of CT dataset, transparency is switched on. Tumour tissues were segmented into separate mask for colouring. Is it collision between tumour and right alveolar nerve?
b. Zoomed view of 3D-reconstruction, view from inside. Ovoid tumor cavity with precise contours. X-ray density is about 6/81 HU, dimensions: 20x9x36 mm. There's a penetration of medial wall of right ramus mandible with size of 10 mm.
c. RP model created from segmentation masks (right view). Tumour tissues and right alveolar nerve were coloured (nerve was drawn in SimPlant Internal Master 8.0 and then exported in stl-format). Collision is obvious.
Patient was successfully operated by prof. A.Timofeev in CMF Surgery clinic of Kiev Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Kiev, Ukraine.
CONCLUSION: The planning of the removing facial bone tumor could be enhanced by merging different procedures: 3D-reconstruction, advanced segmentation with different thresholds and direct control on stereolithographic models. This procedure increases the quality of the planning allowing surgeon to be ready for real situation in operation wound, preparing beforehand the exact shape of bone graft. Also stereolithographic model with coloured tumor's tissues can be excellent educational material for students.
